My Purpose is simple:

Make work great.
Make life great.

We only get one life. We may as well try and make it a good one and live our best life.

I’m very interested in how to make life great, but my main interest is in how to make our work life great.

This is because work plays such an important part of our lives. For many, it’s our identity. When you ask someone to tell us about themselves, they’ll tell mention that they’re a mother, father, etc., but will also tell you about their occupation. Our work life carries in to our home life. If we have a bad day at work, we take it home. If we have a great day at work, we take that home too. This impacts on our family and friends. At work, if we are unhappy with our jobs then that impacts on our colleagues and customers.

Whether you’re an entrepreneur, businessperson, career manager, public service worker, factory worker, soldier, gardener, farmer, or any other occupation, we all have to work, and can always do more to make our work life better.

And if you’re a manager or leader in a workplace, making work great for your people will result in them doing great work, which results in better products and services for the customers and communities that your business serves.

So I’m out to help make work great, which helps to make life great.

I do that by combining the latest science with real-world practice to provide strategic, practical, and integrated solutions that put people at the heart of organisational performance.

I’m a PhD student at the Monash University Accident Research Centre in Australia where I am researching “Systems thinking applied to psychosocial risk management and work-related violence prevention & resilience in Australian local government”.

I completed my MBA at Victoria University in 2020 with an average mark of High Distinction (GPA 3.8/4).

I have worked with over 40 councils and public sector organisations around Australia and New Zealand to help them change their approach to Organisational Development, Enterprise Risk Management, & Employee Safety, Health & Wellbeing systems and culture to make them human-centred, strategically and operationally aligned and integrated, and owned by stakeholders throughout the organisation.

On a Journey from High School Dropout to PhD

Yup, that’s me.

You’re probably wondering how I ended up in this situation.

It all started back in the spring of ’89 when at the ripe old age of 16, I quit school to go off and experience the world of work.

Ever since then, I’ve become increasingly interested in work, organisations, and how it impacts our lives and the lives of those around us.

Throughout my career, I’ve worked as a:

  • Butcher
  • Policeman
  • Nightclub Bouncer
  • Wharfie
  • Miner
  • Roof Tiler
  • Fish & Chip Shop Manager
  • Commercial Cleaner
  • Uber Driver
  • Investigator
  • HR, Risk & Safety Manager
  • PhD Student
  • Self-employed consultant (Click here to visit my business site)

On a journey from high school dropout to PhD…

I dropped out of high school at 16, have spent over 30 years working in a range of high-risk industries, completed an MBA with an average grade of High Distinction (3.8/4), and am now studying for a PhD on psychosocial risk management: occupational violence, bullying & harassment prevention and resilience at the Monash University Accident Research Centre.

I’m committed to helping Make Work Great for as many people as I can so that they can help Make Life Great for their customers, friends, and family.

Work plays such a big part in our lives, and we aren’t robots.

Our work-life impacts our home life.

Our home life impacts our work life.

Organisational leaders have an amazingly powerful opportunity to influence the lives of their people, which then influences the lives of everyone in their social network.
